Discussions often focus on models, agents and architecture. Understandable, because that’s where the visible innovation is. But in practice, I see that the success or failure of agentic AI – especially in business and financial services – is rarely decided there. It is decided in UX.

Not as a visual finish, but as the design of behavior. UX determines whether users understand what a system does, whether they trust it and, more importantly, whether they actually change the way they work. Without that behavioral change, agentic AI remains an experiment, not a routine.

Content

show

Professional context changes the rules of the game

Autonomy must fit with existing work logic

Human-in-the-loop is structural, not an exception

Correction is a form of cooperation

Limitation creates security and accelerates adoption

From feature thinking to behavioral thinking

AI only works when users adopt it

Frequently Asked Questions

Professional context changes the rules of the game

The context in which our clients work is business and financial services. Decisions touch files, cash flows, legal positions and compliance obligations. Mistakes are then not instructive, but above all costly. So responsibility cannot simply be handed over to “the system.”

That makes agentic AI in these domains something other than a smart addition. It feels like a new colleague: a system that prepares, analyzes and executes, but must always stay within professional frameworks. That perception is crucial. Because users don’t judge AI here by cleverness, but by reliability. And the right UX determines whether that digital colleague is seen as supportive or unreliable.

Autonomy must fit with existing work logic

In practice, autonomy of AI for business and financial service providers is rarely the problem. Unpredictability is. Financial advisors, accountants, lawyers, finance & HR teams have much in common in their work processes: preparing, checking, deciding, recording. That rhythm is embedded in their accountability.

When an agent moves through that unexpectedly, it does not feel like efficiency but rather a loss of grip. Good agentic UX is therefore explicitly consistent with existing work logic. Autonomy from AI therefore grows best step by step: first as support, then as executor within clear boundaries.

The user always feels where their own responsibility remains. Only when autonomy becomes recognizable as a logical extension of one’s own work does willingness to let go of tasks arise. And thus realize true adoption of your AI solution. Trust requires substantiation, not conviction

In these professions, a simple answer is rarely enough. Users need to understand why a conclusion is made, based on what information and what assumptions were made. They must be able to explain that decision to a client, colleague or regulator.

UX plays a central role here. Not by showing technical details, but by translating reasoning into jargon. Three design choices make the difference here:

Source visibility: where does this conclusion come from?

Uncertainty markers: when is something an assumption or low certainty?

Reasoning path on demand: explanations available when needed, not imposed by default.

For example: An agent who sometimes indicates that he is not sure is more consistent with professional behavior than an agent who always produces something. UX that makes uncertainty visible increases trust. And therefore adoption.

Human-in-the-loop is structural, not an exception

In many AI discussions, human intervention is seen as something you ideally minimize. In these professions, on the contrary, it is a prerequisite for use. Not because users want to maintain control, but because reasoning and context is a crucial part of their role.

The difference is in the design. If man-in-the-loop feels like an emergency brake, it frustrates and slows down. If it feels like a logical transfer moment, it strengthens the system.

Good UX ensures that users take the wheel at the right time, with enough context to decide quickly and responsibly. That increases the willingness to let AI actually do work, rather than keep controlling everything.

Correction is a form of cooperation

In records, claims and returns, revision is normal. Agentic UX should therefore treat correction not as an error path, but as an integral part of human-system collaboration.

When correction is simply and logically embedded, AI remains useful. Even under pressure and with exceptions. At the same time, it provides valuable signals for product teams: where do assumptions not yet match practice?

Here, UX acts not only as an interface, but also as a learning mechanism that feeds product decisions.

Limitation creates security and accelerates adoption

A recurring pattern in our audiences is that clear boundaries accelerate adoption. The more explicit a system is about what it does not do, the faster users dare to deploy it.

That boundary does not feel like limitation, but rather like safety. UX must therefore make it clear where autonomy stops, which actions always remain manual and when the system pauses. That predictability is essential in environments with low fault tolerance.

Without that boundary, AI remains something to work carefully around. With that boundary, it becomes a reliable partner in the process.

From feature thinking to behavioral thinking

For agentic product teams, the definition of success is shifting. It is not the number of features or the usage rate that is decisive, but the behavior that emerges. Do users dare to let go of tasks? Do they trust the system even with exceptions? Does it hold up when things get tense?

This requires product leadership that steers by behavior, not output. In this, UX is both measuring instrument and steering mechanism.

AI only works when users adopt it

In professional SaaS domains, you don’t build AI to show what is possible. You build AI that must fit within responsibility, regulations and daily workloads.

Agentic AI magnifies what software can do. UX determines whether users modify their behavior and thus whether AI turns from experiment into routine.

For our audiences, agentic UX is not a nice-to-have.
It is the minimum condition for AI to land sustainably at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.
